THE TAP IN ft. Jelildakidd

Hailing from Baltimore, Jelildakidd is an up & coming producer, engineer, & DJ who is well on his way to making waves in Chicago's underground scene. His latest drop "Aimless." features rising names like Mike DFG, devin., & LowLife floating over beats crafted by Jelildakidd himself. In just 7 songs, it's obvious that he is both an extremely versatile producer and a talented curator of budding talent. Tap in below to see what he had to say about his craft & his project "Aimless."

Who is Jelildakidd?
A chill and laid back person who loves to create music in all capacities

Where are you from?
Baltimore, Maryland

How does where you're from influence your sound + style as a producer?
Baltimore has a heavy and subconscious effect on everything I create. In Hindsight growing up hearing Baltimore club records probably can be a connection to why I love experimenting vocal fx. It also subconsciously may have influenced the way I think about programming my drums. THEY MUST KNOCK and give you an incentive to move your body.

What's your background?
I have been in music since I was in 2nd grade. (I’m 20 now) I first got into music by playing the clarinet for a local music program in Baltimore. This is where my love for music first started. I used to help make creative compositions for our band in middle school. This is where my love for creating my own music started. Not until my sophomore year in high school, is when I started making music from my laptop.

Describe your sound in 2 words.
Very raw and Experimental

Describe your project (Aimless.) in 2 words.
Diverse, and compelling.

"Hopefully this intrigues listeners to dive deeper into the artists' catalog that are featured on this album. I truly believe that this is a representation of the next up and coming underground artist in the city."

If you had to pick one song off Aimless. for people to listen to first, what song would you pick? Why?
I pick “Whatever You Think” ft Taylor Rainn because this was the first recorded song for the EP. Also both of Taylor Rainn’s songs were done in 2020 which during the I first saw a leap in my production. He is also from Baltimore as well.

What did you set out to accomplish with this project? Was there a message you wanted to send?
I just wanted to put together a compilation of my favorite songs I've been working on between the times of Winter 2022 and Spring 2023. The honest goal was to pop out with some music on my own. I also want to be the face connected to the music I create. I believe this was the true first step of doing that.

What do you want people to hear/feel?
I want people to hear and feel the new wave of artists on this project. Hopefully this intrigues listeners to dive deeper into the artists catalog that are featured on this album. I truly believe that this is a representation of the next up and coming underground artist in the city.

You connected with some up-and-coming artist from Chicago for this project. Can you share a bit about your connection to Chicago and a few of these artists?
I hang out with the collective LowLife the most I would say. These are the 2 of my closest friends in Chicago. The 2 members are Tyrelly and $aint Duewwy. I met them at the beginning of 2022 but we really locked in during the winter of last year. This is where I believe we really locked in and hit a stride in creativity. During that time period they were crafting they’re project “Nothing Good Happens Past 3am”. We kick it all the time.

Is there any Chicago artists you’d be interested in collaborating with in the future? Who?
Unfortunately I don’t have an answer to that. All my collaborations happen organically and I usually develop some type of relationship first before I create with another artist. However I do know that I want to get into my RnB/Soul bag. So I would just want to work with more singers as a whole in Chicago
