What’s your background? What got you into creating?
My background was not always creative. Up until my Junior year of college I wanted to be a lawyer. However, after learning how to make beats I quickly realized I wanted to be a musician. I fell in love with creating my own sound and making music I wanted to hear. After I graduated I was able to take it more seriously and basically pursue music as my full-time job.
How would you describe your style?
My musical style can not be put into one genre besides when I’m rapping. I love that. I’ve fused everything I like about music into one. I love how my voice sounds with autotune, I love layering my voice as if it was R&B, I love having fast cadences when I’m singing as if it was Hip-Hop. When you mix all of that together you have my sound, and I love that you’re not able to put a specific genre on it.
How does where you're from influence you and your craft?
Chicago has a great influence on the music I create. We were one of the first cities to heavily utilize autotune in our music. I took it one step further and created a very developed and specific sound using autotune. I also get my approach to rap from the city. We have a very specific and whimsical cadence that I love to use.
In 2020, you dropped In my room and earlier this year you put out In My Room 2. How do you feel you grew or evolved between the two projects? Did you approach in my room 2 differently?
I’ve grown so much between In My Room and In My Room 2. In My Room was raw emotional pain that I put into music. I was at a very pivotal and uncomfortable moment in my life creating that and I needed an outlet to express how I was feeling. In My Room 2 is more calculated growing pain music. I really took my time to find my singing voice and I believe it’s better than ever now. In My Room 2 took much longer to record than In My Room. There are virtually two different versions of In My Room 2 because of the amount of changes and rough drafts I had to make throughout the recording process.
In my room 2 was executively produced by yourself and Cbbeatz, can you talk a bit about your process and how you two work together?
Me and CB met through Instagram. He was one of the first producers to ever believe in my music early on. He had sent me a couple of beats beforehand, so when we finally came together to do a project I was able to send him two songs back to back. And from there we realized the chemistry and knew we needed to make a tape together. It was all done virtually because of the pandemic, so after finishing a song I would send it back to him. We kept doing that process until all of the songs were recorded.
You’ve engineered, produced, and written your music, which is impressive. How important is it for you to be kind of self-contained and self-sufficient as an artist in that way?
It is very important to the way I approach this music business. I’m very introverted and I struggle with social anxiety. So I’m not really the type of artist to be at all of the functions or come to the studio to record my music. As a result, I have to learn to be self-sufficient and create and maintain my own buzz. I do most of all the production, all of my engineering, all of my cover arts and flyers related to rollout, I edit my own videos and pictures, and really anything else you can think of, I am probably doing it. However, my cousin just recently joined my marketing team and her goal is to get me out of my comfort zone and to become more social.
What’s next for Hunter Amazing this year?
I won’t lie, trying to get rich is what’s next for me this year. I’m ready to receive what’s mine for all of my hard work and dedication. But I know to get there I need to turn it up in every aspect. So hopefully I can get out another tape before this year is over and I also want to elevate my clothing brand to the height I know it can be at. I’m really finna footwork on 2022 so I can be rich by 2023 you hear me!
